In an era when more and more people chose themselves a witty-yet-meaningless title Jay McCormack is one of the few who lives up to his title.
Perhaps the title doesn’t go far enough. Who else but Jay would register his children a twitter handle before they are of pre-school age. How many of us digitally video record presentations and host them online as an alternative to notes? How many of us post a quick online video tutorial to explain how a online booking system (that we ourselves created) actually works? Perhaps technology fundamentalist would be more apt…
Jay is also bi-lingual. He is fluent in the language of technology yet he can translate that into everyday language for everyday people. People who, like most of us, are interested in the benefits of the technology, not the technology for technology’s sake.
In his spare time he podcasts, tweets compulsively and joins a group of other geeks to communicate in a reassuringly old-fashioned medium – radio. However this medium is used to talk about – what else? – technology.
Jay knows how to present and goes to great lengths tailoring his presentation to his audience. When asked to present to university admissions centre which was new to using online chat software Jay went undercover. He contacted the department, recorded the interaction and presented it to the group. He’s also one of the few folk on the planet to use PowerPoint for good not evil.
Unlike other people infused with digital culture, Jay spent 9 years of his professional life helping an array of organisations apply technology in the real world.
Today Jay has decided to concentrate his work on using technology in innovative ways to solve real business problems and has started his own business based around just that.
Don’t take Jay’s word for it, here’s some recent comments from presentations he’s done:
